Vegan billboards take over Beirut!

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

Earlier this week, billboards raising awareness on the link between pandemics and the way humans treat other animals (especially those who are farmed) took over Beirut.

17 LED billboards, situated on key points of the main highway of Lebanon and within the city of Beirut show photos of pigs, cows and chickens in farms along quotes from the World Health Organization and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The campaign is set to reach millions of people within the next 30 days.

Avian flu, swine flu, Says, Mers, COVID-19, Ebola, Nipah.. What's next?

The ''Stop Funding Pandemics Campaign'' launched by the organization Lebanese Vegans aims to raise awareness on the impact of animal agriculture and offers people the opportunity to get free professional nutritional help to go vegan. One huge screen on the highway of Dora reads: ''Avian flu, swine flu, SARS, MERS, COVID-19, Ebola, Nipah... What's next?''

This is the first ever campaign of its kind in Lebanon. The Lebanese Vegans Social Hub, launched in November 2020 has made it possible for activists to gather and work on spreading the message of animal rights in Lebanon as well as the destruction and health crisis caused by the animal agriculture industry. The launch of the campaign comes shortly after Hayek Hospital announced that it has switched to become the world's first vegan hospital, strictly serving nothing but vegan plant based foods to its patients and visitors.

Lebanon has been dealing with a financial crisis, the pandemic and political instability for more than a year now with hundreds of businesses closing down and unemployment rates rising.

So far, there has been more than 449.000 cases and more 5.903 deaths (Source: JHU CSSE COVID-19 Data)
